These courses provide background for understanding the validation requirements of the new sterilization standard EN-ISO 11137. The focus is on gaining practical experience on the dosimetric and microbiological aspects of electron beam sterilization as required in IQ, OQ, PQ and Process Control. Radiation effects on polymers and biocompatibility are also addressed.
Following the successful Conference in September 2008, the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) is organising the Second European Medical Polymers Conference, at Queen's University Belfast, in September 2010. This three day course will provide training in both the theory and practical implementation of dosimetry for radiation processing. Particular emphasis will be placed on medical device sterilization and the requirements of standard EN/ISO 11137, but the course will also be applicable to dosimetry for other radiation processing applications.
The Council on Ionizing Radiation Measurements and Standards (CIRMS – www.cirms.org) has announced the agenda for its 19th annual meeting to be held at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland, October 18 to 20. This year’s annual meeting will focus on Ionizing Radiation Sources: Uses, Availability and Options, and will address two main themes: 1) the availability of isotopes and alternatives for specific applications and 2) the benefits and risks of low-dose radiation exposures.
Since the first IRaP in 1994 this meeting has become a major forum for the exchange and dissemination of information on the effects of ionizing radiation on polymers. Within the context of IRaP symposia ionizing radiation comprises electromagnetic and corpuscular radiations such as gamma rays, accelerated electron beams, heavy ions, X-rays, deep UV and plasma. Important hotel reservation information:
The major goal of the symposium is to provide a forum where advances in radiation dosimetry during the last decade, in radiation medicine and radiation protection can be disseminated and scientific knowledge exchanged. It will include all specialties in radiation medicine and radiation protection dosimetry with a specific focus on those areas where the standardization of dosimetry has improved in the recent years (brachytherapy, diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine).
AAMI's 3½ day program provides intensive coverage of the principles, processes, industry best practices, and industry standards in radiation sterilization for medical devices. This course is designed to be highly interactive between faculty and participants and will include relevant real life examples and "hands-on" exercises from a broad spectrum of medical device products.
The 2009 event was a huge success! Join Us in 2010 at the Industry Event for Medical Device and Biopharma Development and Manufacturing. Exploring ways to improve quality and reliability, shorten time to market, and increase efficiencies is always good business practice-but perhaps never more so than in today's challenging economy.
