Abstract
In this paper recent advances in material qualification for industrial irradiation applications like medical device sterilisation and advanced material processing are reviewed. The paper summarizes the requirements or applicable standards like ISO 11137 and gives an overview of recent literature and guidance literature.

New methods for material qualifications are considered, e.g. the determination of volume changes of irradiated objects as function of the dose using an industrial CT-scanner.

In addition the role of mathematical modelling for material qualification is analyzed in detail. The paper focuses on the mathematical modelling of the time-dependant temperature distribution in complex objects as function of the irradiation topology and dose. New methods to combine Monte Carlo radiation and heat transport code are described and some preliminary results of a recent research project are presented.
